ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, strong winds in eastern Idaho damaged multiple power lines, prompting Bingham County Sheriff and Pocatello Police to warn residents and secure roads as utilities shut off power to reduce hazards. East Idaho News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho Land Board distributed $68,224,800 to public schools through state endowment revenues during a Christmas celebration on Dec. 16 in Boise. Superintendent Debbie Critchfield received a symbolic check (joined by Capital Singers performing in the rotunda) to mark the event. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Strong winds on Wednesday caused multiple crashes + power outages and forced closures at local spots such as a cemetery and library as falling trees impacted roads near city hall. Crews worked overnight to clear hazards after the wind warning expired at 11 p.m. KPVI
- ➤ Today, thunderstorms with gusts up to 80 mph closed I-84 between mile markers 230 and 240 after two semi-truck rollovers and prompted calls to Pocatello Police about fallen trees and downed power lines. Emergency crews are working to clear roads + urge residents to follow safety guidelines. Local News 8
- ➤ On Dec. 5, IDFG reported it stocked sterile Rainbow Trout to boost angler catches and protect wild fish genetics in local waters, including Birch Creek (and Henrys Fork). This move helps manage fish numbers and supports trophy fisheries. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

- ➤ Grace High School senior Gavin Draper was named Second-Team All-State at both quarterback and defensive back roles among three Grizzlies on the honor list, while 12 Kendrick players were selected by statewide coaches from the Idaho Statesman+ the selections were revealed on December 17. - ➤ A 16-year-old wrestler with Blackfoot ties, a Pan American champion with Olympic dreams, now aims for a World Championship gold medal on the international stage. Idaho State Journal
