COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Leavitt Family hosts their 13th annual Pet Food Drive, which began on Thursday and continues through today at Albertsons (330 E. Benton St) in Pocatello from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., collecting pet food, treats, toys and cat litter for the Bannock Humane Society.  KPVI
  • Funeral services for former Bannock County Judge Bill Woodland are set for Friday, Dec. 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on East Alameda Road + his family will greet friends on Thursday, Dec. 18 at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck.  Local News 8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A water main break near Poleline Road and Eldredge Road on December 12 caused water to enter a power grid area, prompting officials to shut off water and advise residents to remain indoors (Bannock County Sheriff’s Office alert) as utility crews work nearby.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School District 25 is teaching third-graders coding — they are using a new artificial intelligence curriculum to build critical thinking and technology skills. The program supports hands-on learning as students explore digital tools in their daily lessons.  Idaho State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pocatello Police Department remembered K9 Frank, a yellow lab who served over five years, at 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 11. After his veterinarian confirmed a decline in health, Frank passed away peacefully following many community events and deployments.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Two water main breakages in Pocatello led to the closure of Hawthorne Middle School and Indian Hills Elementary yesterday. City and district officials ensured student safety (evacuations and reunification procedures were quickly executed) while crews repaired the lines and turned off the water.  East Idaho News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southeastern Idaho Public Health confirmed the second flu death of the season last Friday—a man in his 50s from Health District 6, prompting officials to urge residents to get vaccinated to protect against further spread.  East Idaho News
