COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Friends of Marshall Public Library have opened their Holiday Store on the library's first floor, offering discounted books, games, movies, and collectibles all December from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (items cost between 25 cents and $5) and proceeds support library programs.  Local News 8
  • Dozens of women attended the annual Holiday Tea at Yellowstone on Saturday, where themed tables, lunch, silent auction and canned food donations raised about $6,500 for local charities (Idaho Food Bank and Family Services Alliance).  KPVI
  • The December lunch menu and activity schedule were posted on the Pocatello/Chubbuck Senior Center website on Dec. 9; lunch (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) is served Tuesday through Friday at 427 N 6th Avenue.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Shannon Leavitt’s annual pet food drive returns this week to benefit Bannock Humane Society by providing food & toys to local pets.  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Highland High School students received the 2025 Pocatello’s Promise of Tomorrow Mayoral Scholarship on December 8 to attend Idaho State University with a total award of $2,000. Mayor Blad praised the winners for overcoming challenges (sixth year program) after reviewing their academic records and financial need.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Dec. 5, Idaho leaders signed an expanded Shared Stewardship agreement with federal and state agencies to double sustainable timber production and accelerate forest restoration to reduce wildfire risks, a move that will support rural economies and protect local forests.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Idaho State Treasurer Julie A. Ellsworth announced on Dec. 9 that $2.25 million was returned in November—the highest monthly amount on record—and urged residents to check the unclaimed property database online (208-332-2942 for assistance) to claim forgotten funds.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Portions of the Monte Vista to Pocatello Creek Road Pathway have been closed since Dec. 9 for erosion improvements and safety upgrades to the multi-use trail - crews expect to reopen the pathway in several days after completing excavation, paving, and drainage work.  Local News 8
