COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Several local restaurants and the Veterans Memorial Building will offer free Thanksgiving meals for community members in Pocatello on November 27. Palate Neighborhood Bistro will serve 100 to-go meals from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — the Veterans Memorial Building will host a dinner starting at 1 p.m. until supplies run out.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Community members gathered for the annual turkey drive called Cranksgiving over the weekend in Pocatello. Bicyclists met at Barrie's Ski and Sports to collect more than 1,300 turkeys that were escorted by Pocatello Police—and later distributed with traditional Thanksgiving items to families in need.  KPVI
  • Christmas in the Nighttime Skies returns Friday, Nov. 28—marking the 35th year of a holiday tradition at the Bannock County Event Center where families gather for bonfires, food, and a fireworks show at 8 p.m. Donations of new, unwrapped toys benefit local children through Toys for Tots.  East Idaho News
  • The Pocatello Police Department held its seventh annual Give the Cops a Bird food drive during Thanksgiving, collecting ($4165, 71 turkeys, and 96 pounds of food) to support the Idaho Foodbank. Officers thanked the community on Facebook (citing its generosity, energy, and kindness) for making the drive a success.  Local News 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho State University and the University of Idaho have partnered to establish a North Idaho Affiliate of the Idaho Museum of Natural History that will host exhibits in the Mines and McClure buildings at the UI campus to boost student learning and community access. A ribbon cutting event is being planned for March 2026 as the museum expands its natural history displays.  Local News 8
  • Idaho State University is facing budget cuts and planning further reductions, but President Robert Wagner said layoffs or furloughs are premature—no staff cuts have been confirmed so far.  Idaho State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Nov. 21, Idaho Fish and Game staff responded to a report of two mule deer bucks entangled by their antlers and barbed wire near Mink Creek and tranquilized them to saw an antler from each—an action that prevented a deadly outcome.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pocatello sanitation services announced a change in holiday collection timing—residents with Thursday pickups must set out garbage, recycling, yard waste and leaves for collection on Friday by 7 a.m., while those with Friday pickups should place items out on Saturday by 7 a.m. Regular service will resume on Monday, December 1 and the Bannock County Landfill will be closed on Thanksgiving.  Local News 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Christmas tree fetched a record $420,000 bid Saturday night at the TriState Health Foundation’s Festival of Trees charity auction at Clearwater River Casino and Lodge — the winning bid set a new high for the fundraiser.  Idaho State Journal
  • Since August 1, DHW reported 26 cases of bacterial illness—23 Campylobacter cases including six in children and 3 STEC cases with two hospitalizations—linked to raw milk consumption in Idaho, and it urged anyone with symptoms to seek medical care promptly.  Local News 8
