  • The city of Chubbuck is hosting its annual holiday decorating contest — all residents and businesses are invited to display creative holiday lights and decorations — with judging from November 27th to December 7th at 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and winners announced on December 9th.  KPVI

  • Idaho Power advised customers on November 18th to prepare for potential cold-weather outages from heavy snow or strong winds—by assembling an outage kit with essentials like flashlights, blankets, and non-perishable food—and by following safety guidelines for portable generators and space heaters.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

CRIME NEWS

  • Utility Scam Awareness Day occurred November 19—Idaho Power warned customers to be wary of scam calls and messages during the busy holiday season. The utility advised that anyone unsure of a representative should call its Customer Care Team at 208—388—2323.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • POCATELLO residents can find handmade gifts at the ninth annual Crafts and Drafts fair—held at Portneuf Valley Brewing—from noon to 6 p.m. on November 28 and 29. Around 14 local vendors will display crafts ranging from stained glass art to creatively themed pottery.  East Idaho News
  • A candlelit concert fundraiser will be held on Dec. 5 at KIND Conservatory’s recital hall in Historic Downtown Pocatello—couples will enjoy a 6:30 p.m. reception and a 7:30 p.m. concert while each ticket supports music lessons and scholarships for young musicians.  East Idaho News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The American Automobile Association and Boise Airport expect record-setting travel during Thanksgiving—many Idaho drivers are scheduled to hit the roads as officials advise planning ahead to avoid delays.  Post Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After an eight-month wait following its groundbreaking, the Bannock County Youth Development Center opened and offers at-risk teens classroom education, behavioral help, and outdoor activities in a safe, modern facility replacing an old jail — built with $2.6 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds. Operated by Bannock County Juvenile Justice with the local school district, the center supports students at high risk of school expulsion and other challenges.  KPVI
  • Tendoy Elementary School in Pocatello received a $2,000 grant from the Idaho Lottery Bucks for Books Program and will use the funds to purchase new books for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade — Principal Krystel Lockyer said the updated library materials will help motivate student learning.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho State Police is holding Crash Responder Safety Week from November 17 to 21 to remind drivers to slow down and move over when they see emergency vehicles — a law that helps keep busy responders safe on the roads.
