COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two parents in Pocatello organized a pet supplies donation drive to honor their late daughter Kamari Alvarez, gathering items for six local animal welfare organizations and delivering the donations yesterday with staff from Enhabit Home Health & Hospice. The drive, held before what would have been her fourth birthday, marks a heartfelt tribute to a child who loved animals—uniting the community in support of local shelters.  East Idaho News
  • Yesterday at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building, veterans and volunteers were honored at a Veterans Day ceremony where Chaplain Charles 'Chuck' Humphrey led a prayer and Officer Jordan Johnson discussed the meaning of service. Three local women were given the Spirit of Freedom Award for their work with veterans—Eva Ackerman, Cheri Honas, and Lynn Leggat—while attendees enjoyed a community lunch provided by Happy to Help of Pocatello.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • ISU's Festival of Trees has planned a TUBACHRISTMAS event — hundreds of tuba players around the world will join next week to honor a legendary musician born on Christmas Day — and Pocatello will add its local celebration to the global tribute.  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A ribbon cutting will be held for a new Youth Development Center in Bannock County on Wednesday November 19 at 3 p.m. on 10588 Fairground Road in Pocatello to open a program that will support at-risk teenagers with classroom education and extracurricular programs (vocational training and service-learning projects).  KPVI
  • Idaho State University welcomed its largest incoming classes since 2023 as the housing department struggles with full occupancy and slow improvements in older complexes. The university will send proposals in the spring for a new apartment complex by 2028 or 2029—while tenants in older units like Pulling Courts noted a $170 rent increase without major upgrades.  Local News 8

  • The City of Pocatello worked with partners to compile a list of local facilities and services for people affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown—such as those without pay or SNAP benefits.   • Abracadabra’s celebrated its 10-year anniversary in October and owner Lysa Swain said the restaurant will add new dishes while keeping fan favorites at its Pocatello location on Yellowstone Ave.  East Idaho News
