  • The Centennial Rotary club of Pocatello completed a project that installed three peace poles—at Lookout Point, Brooklyn’s Playground at OK Ward Park, and Cotant Park—with each pole bearing the message 'May peace prevail on earth' in several languages to honor the United Nations International Day of Peace.  KPVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hares and Hatters Bookshop is the newest independent bookstore in downtown Pocatello — it specializes in new releases and hosts book clubs and author visits. Founded last summer by local businesswomen Jamie Wood and Nicki Stanton after successful pop up events, the shop now also lets customers order books online with a personal thank-you note.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Power warned local residents that many household devices draw standby power that wastes energy—unplugging unused electronics or using power-saving features can help reduce extra costs during Halloween. The utility advises checking devices such as computers, coffee makers, and game consoles to cut energy waste.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

  • Pocatello roads have shown measurable improvement and now rate above the national average, according to a survey by Infrastructure Management Services — a firm that evaluates roadway conditions.  Idaho State Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Businesses in Pocatello and Chubbuck will host Sunshine Week — running Nov. 1–8 — to raise funds for 5-year-old Saylor Burch, who is battling an inoperable brain tumor. Saylor is currently undergoing clinical trial treatments in Denver after receiving radiation and chemotherapy, and her family and community remain hopeful.  East Idaho News

  • Idaho Fish and Game reported that late-fall and winter fishing was productive because lower stream levels kept trout and whitefish in tighter spots—anglers can use drifting bait and fly tactics to catch fish in cold water.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
