COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Pocatello congratulated this year’s Golden Pumpkin winners in a Facebook post last Friday — winners include Golden Pumpkin Award Winner at 625 Brent Street, Spooktacular Spirit at 1560 Golden Gate Street, Creepiest Curb Appeal at 1730 Fairway Drive, and Honorable Mentions at 1257 Hiline Road, 2770 Kootenai Street, and 230 Park Avenue.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • KPVI is running a trick-or-treat candy contest that invites residents to vote for their favorite fruit flavored candies — the two top picks will move on to a third round.  KPVI
  • At the KPVI Trick-or-Treat Candy Showdown, only two gummy candies advanced after a surprise upset and locals are invited to vote to choose the best gummy for Halloween—the winner will move on to the final round this Thursday.  KPVI
  • KPVI hosts a trick-or-treat candy showdown that asks local voters to choose the top hard candy flavor; only the top two will advance to the third round—voting is now open.  KPVI
  • In a landslide vote only two chocolate candies advanced in the Halloween contest—people may vote now to decide the best candy with the winner moving on to the final round on Thursday.  KPVI
  • Brady's Plant Ranch in Downey is hosting its annual fall fest with family games, food trucks, local vendors and its signature Brady burger, and the business will close until spring. Manager Aimee Collings said the event brings neighbors together — highlighting the strong local, family-owned tradition.  KPVI
  • Local Civitan clubs hosted a Stone Soup Fundraiser Monday evening in Pocatello as Bannock Civitan and Junior Civitan clubs organized soup donations, raffle drawings, and a coloring contest for third graders—proceeds will fund community projects by Junior Civitan clubs.  KPVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Walrus & Carpenter Books is a downtown landmark at 251 N. Main Street that has served Pocatello book lovers since it opened in 1988. Owner Will Peterson—who moved from Twin Falls after a career change and was advised against starting a bookstore—runs the shop as a cultural hub for local readings, art exhibits, and events.  East Idaho News
  • The Museum of Idaho announced a $50,000 donation from Oklo—an advanced nuclear technology company developing its first commercial Aurora powerhouse at Idaho National Laboratory.  Post Register

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Idaho reported that Monday’s average price for regular gas was $3.40, five cents lower than a week ago and ten cents lower than a month ago, with Pocatello gas selling for $3.36. Analysts warned that if crude oil supplies tighten and demand holds, prices may stabilize or rise by Thanksgiving + recent sanctions on Russian crude could also affect market trends.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Habitat Improvement Team allocated over $900,000 to five conservation projects that will restore rivers and wetlands and protect wildlife habitats in southeast Idaho — the initiative leverages more than $6.6 million in matching funds from state, federal and private partners.  Local News 8
  • After Monday morning's snow flurries, forecasts predict eastern Idaho will warm with clear skies—Pocatello may near 60 degrees on Halloween while Driggs could see light showers after midnight Friday. National Weather Service forecaster Jack Messick said Monday afternoon brought a break in lingering showers, setting the stage for a warmer Halloweekend.  East Idaho News

  • Former U.S. Congressman Richard Stallings died peacefully on Sunday, October 26 at age 85 and left a legacy of devoted service to Idaho's working families and a long career teaching history at Rick's College; funeral arrangements have not yet been announced (by his family) (pending further details).  Local News 8
  • The City of Pocatello will host a ribbon-cutting and push-in ceremony on October 29 at 5:15 p.m. at Pocatello Fire Department, Fire Station #1—this event will mark the addition of Truck 1, a new tractor-drawn aerial truck that will improve emergency response.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
