- ➤ Volunteers spent Saturday painting a local building in Pocatello as part of a community project+ organizers believe the work will enhance the neighborhood. Post Register
- ➤ The Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission will host the Brady Chapel Veterans Day open house on November 11th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery—attendees will learn about the chapel’s history and the ongoing restoration efforts that began last year. KPVI

- ➤ Idaho foster child advocates say recent policy and law changes have raised concerns that abuse is worsening as nearly all programs report that children enter foster care under conditions that may heighten their risk—adding to long-standing challenges across the regions. Idaho State Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ With floors clean and paint dry, the city-owned recycling center is fully operational after the city bought and renovated the facility when Western Recycling left last summer. The upgrade lowered monthly costs from $20,000 to under $5,000 a month + now the center earns a small profit through a new commercial cardboard route while reminding residents to recycle properly. - ➤ The city of Pocatello warns trail users that trails near the west Clark fire area will be closed as a contractor will spray herbicide for cheat-grass control tomorrow morning—this treatment will not harm native grasses—and signs will be posted to keep users away from the spray area. KPVI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Pocatello published its weekly Road Construction & Traffic Report that lists street sweeping, pothole patching, lane repainting, water main replacement on S. Arthur Ave. from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and Gould St. Overpass repairs from October 20 to 24 with lane closures. Drivers should plan for delays as E. Elm St. will be closed Saturday, October 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for a music festival—ISU will also host its annual Homecoming Parade from 10:00 a.m. to noon—. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ City of Pocatello held a ribbon cutting Monday evening at its renovated recycling facility — bought in 2024 to keep recycling going — as Mayor Brian Blad said the updates improved safety and lower costs. KPVI
- ➤ In November 2023, Baker City resident Matt Krabacher organized a petition to restore a train line connecting Portland, Pocatello, and Salt Lake City — advocates said the service would bridge the rural and urban gap. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ On October 6, dashcam footage posted on Facebook captured a near collision at the roundabout (where Hurley Drive and Pole Line Road meet) when one driver failed to yield properly, and city engineer Merril Quayle (who has explained roundabout rules for nearly 20 years) said drivers must slow down and watch lane markings to keep everyone safe.
