COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Scout Mountain District of the Grand Teton Council of Scouting America and its co-sponsors will host the annual Scouting for Food drive on Saturday, Oct. 18 to collect non-perishable food for local banks ahead of the holiday season—troops and packs will coordinate drop-off stations in Pocatello/Chubbuck, American Falls, Lava Hot Springs, McCammon, Inkom and Soda Springs. - ➤ The Pocatello Historical Preservation Commission and Friends of Brady Chapel will host a Veterans Day Open House on Tuesday, November 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the century-old chapel in Mountain View Cemetery — the event will celebrate local history and share updates on ongoing restoration work. - ➤ The Lava Hot Springs Hot Pools are closed for renovations as water is drained to start work on the hottest pool and the facility will re-open on November 7 while the upper hot pool remains closed for further work. In the meantime, the Indoor Aquatic Center and Kiddie Cove remain open. KPVI
- ➤ The Portneuf Greenway Foundation finished two trails that create safe walk and bike paths from the Monta Vista overpass to Pocatello Creek Road and onward to the Portneuf Wellness Complex. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 5:15 p.m. on October 30th at the Red Lion Hotel parking lot—this project follows nearly a decade of local planning and community support. KPVI

- ➤ The Idaho Museum of Natural History is hosting its 5th annual Fall Fossil Fest today with a special dinner and lecture by Dr. Josh Lively and the debut of a massive fossil skull from an ancient crocodile. Tickets for today's event are sold out — some spots remain for Saturday's event and the fest will return next year. Local News 8

- ➤ Marshall Public Library in Pocatello is hosting a November Novel Writing Challenge that invites writers aged 12 and older to set personal goals and join virtual or in-person write-ins at local bookstores and coffee shops—organizers hope the event will spur local authors to advance their projects. East Idaho News
- ➤ Idaho State University will host the Mountain West Marching Band Invitational tomorrow at the ICCU Dome from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—1,021 high school students from Idaho, Utah and Nevada will perform in 19 bands, and tickets cost $10 for students and $15 for adults. East Idaho News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Pocatello will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 20th at 5:15 p.m. at the newly renovated recycling facility on 3034 Garret Way. The facility was acquired last August to keep recycling services running and received upgrades—interior renovations, warehouse improvements and enhanced drop-off areas to boost safety and accessibility. - ➤ Residents in Pocatello are invited to join the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Recycling Services Facility on Monday, October 20 at 5:15 p.m. at 3034 Garrett Way — city officials said the facility was upgraded after its August 2024 acquisition to keep recycling services running.
