- ➤ On November 8th the Bannock County Sheriff's Office will host the annual Stuff the Stocking fundraiser at Chubbuck Walmart—collecting donations for the Cops and Kids program that offers children holiday experiences like breakfast, photos with Santa and a gift shopping trip. KPVI
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Idaho State University will host its annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration on Monday, October 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom—featuring keynote speeches, cultural performances, art showcases, and interactive sessions as part of a partnership with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes; the free event welcomes both onsite and virtual participation for the public. - ➤ Idaho State University is hosting its 40th annual Choral Invitational today and tomorrow at the Stephens Performing Arts Center — high school choirs from across the state will join clinic sessions with guest conductor Jake Runestad and then perform tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Jensen Grand Concert Hall while ISU’s choirs also take the stage; tickets cost $10. - ➤ Idaho Department of Labor said that high home prices, rising rents, and increasing costs for food, childcare, and transport are making it hard for workers to move for new jobs and support their families—factors that could slow our local economic growth and reduce future job opportunities. - ➤ School District 25 shared a time-lapse video from October 8 showing progress on the Highland High School rebuild—phase 1 will complete in 14 months. The update reflects the district’s plan to rebuild the school for students and the community. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ Rigby High School teacher Laron Johnson was named Idaho Teacher of the Year after teaching in the Jefferson School District for 28 years. He will serve as a spokesperson for Idaho educators at local and national events in 2026—highlighting his innovative programs that inspire curiosity and civic engagement. KPVI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Portneuf Medical Center will host a Wave of Light event on October 15th at the Portneuf Wellness Complex to remember babies who passed due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or early infant death. Guests will gather at pavilion two and at 7 p.m. candles will be lit so luminaries will be on display from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. + refreshments and luminary kits will be provided. KPVI
