COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The rain did not stop Portneuf Valley Farmers Market from holding its annual Harvest Festival over the weekend, where an apple pie contest was judged by KPVI’s Deanne Coffin—Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad based on crust, creativity, and taste. Megan Rawson won first place with her first-ever Salted Carmel Apple Pie that used bourbon, earning a $75 check.  KPVI
  • Three local car clubs—the Pocatello Car Club, Idaho Classics and Modern Muscle, and Team Idaho Bassheads—will host Carl's Cars and Coffee Trunk or Treat on Oct. 19 to raise funds for Toys for Tots. The event will run from 10 a.m. until noon behind Key Bank and invite people to donate toys or money to support the drive.  East Idaho News
  • Registration for Pro Bono Week is now open and the event will run from Oct. 19—25, offering free legal clinics to help residents and honor volunteer attorneys.  Post Register
  • First United Methodist Church in Pocatello opened a 24/7 Blessings Pantry nearly two months ago to offer food and personal care items to anyone in need—no church membership required. The church also will host free Crowded Table meals on the 2nd Saturday of each month until December 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  KPVI

CRIME NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game is seeking information on a white-tailed deer buck that was illegally shot and left to waste in Game Management Unit 68A—Bingham County.  Idaho State Journal
  • Idaho Fish and Game set a trap using life-like decoys to catch hunters breaking laws by spotlighting, tree-passing, and road hunting—those caught may lose their license, face fines up to $1,000, serve up to six months in jail, and pay a $50 restitution fee.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pocatello teens can join the free Tech Titans Robotics Club at Marshall Public Library starting October 11 from 3 to 5 p.m.—the program is made possible by a $20,000 donation from the Friends of Marshall Public Library and is limited to 30 students with all materials provided.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A forum was held tonight at Chubbuck City Hall by the League of Women Voters of Pocatello so that voters could meet candidates for the School District 25 Board of Trustees, Chubbuck City Council, and mayor. Early voting will run from October 14 to October 31 with Election Day on November 4.  KPVI
  • Bannock County Assessor Anita Hymas explained that the office reviews building permits and inspects new construction to confirm occupancy and set prorated tax assessments. Homeowners must verify property details in person and may apply for exemptions or tax reduction programs—steps that lead to tax notices mailed later this year.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
