COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Community Food Basket launched its 5th annual October Food Drive on October 3rd and aims to collect 100,000 pounds of food by October 31st. Volunteers will pick up donations every Friday and Saturday at Sam's Club, Broulim's in Ammon and three Albertsons locations in Idaho Falls—helping meet the urgent need for items like cold cereal, canned chili, canned tuna, canned veggies and macaroni and cheese. - ➤ The City of Pocatello Parks & Recreation Department announced that Optimist Skate Park at 972 N. 7th Avenue will close on October 9 and October 10 for final construction work by Artisan Skateparks — crews will complete finishing touches and winterize the park so it reopens on October 11. - ➤ Local car clubs, including Pocatello Car Club and Idaho Classics and Modern Muscle, will host a trunk-or-treat event at Carl's Cars and Coffee at Key Bank parking lot on Yellowstone on Sunday October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Families may also donate to Toys for Tots during the event — a chance for local fun. KPVI

- ➤ The Idaho Museum of Natural History will host its 5th annual Fall Fossil Fest on October 17 with a special dinner and lecture by Dr. Josh Lively, curator of paleontology at the Prehistoric Museum in Price — he will discuss Idaho's fossil record and his work on Gastonia. The event will also include fossil-themed activities and chances to meet scientists from Idaho State University. KPVI

- ➤ Local farmers may benefit as Taiwan continues to buy Idaho wheat following a deal announced last month in Boise—ensuring a steady market for grain. Post Register
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the Idaho Public Utilities Commission issued a ruling—lowering solar reimbursement rates and pausing annual adjustments for solar generators. The decision will affect customers who rely on solar power in the state. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ The Idaho Supreme Court is set to hear cases in eastern Idaho this week as it reviews several legal disputes — further details on the docket have not been announced. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ Pocatello is studying moving City Hall from its current site to the Historic Federal Building at 150 South Arthur Avenue after issuing a request for qualifications on Sept. 24. Mayor Brian Blad said the feasibility study will review needed repairs and costs while council will later decide if the project should move forward — discussions have continued since 2018. - ➤ Gate City Coffee in Historic Downtown Pocatello is hosting week three of candidate town halls for the mayoral and city council races from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., starting today with Melissa Hartman and continuing Oct 8 with Stacy Satterfield, Oct 9 with Steve Brown, Oct 10 with Mayor Brian Blad, and Oct 11 with Jim Young — fifteen candidates are taking part. - ➤ Today, the Bannock County Commissioners hold a 9:00 a.m. business meeting on action items at the Commissioner’s Chambers in Pocatello, and on Friday they meet at 1:30 p.m. with an agenda to be updated later today — all meetings remain open to the public. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
