- ➤ Westside Players in Pocatello raised $30,000 through community donations and grants to replace a decades-old stage and install new heaters. The theater will debut the improved stage during its fall show Little Women today—underscoring the community's quick support. KPVI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The City of Pocatello is accepting applications for the 2026 Promise of Tomorrow Mayoral Scholarship, which will award five local students $2,000 each—one prize is reserved for a child of a city employee. Applicants in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District must submit forms by November 14 at 5:00 p.m. online or at the Mayor’s Office. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Pocatello was awarded $4.84 million from the USDA’s Community Wildfire Defense Grant on September 30; the funds will be used over five years to reduce wildfire risk on 1,350 acres of City-owned open space and nearby private lands — including fuel reduction, prescribed burn training, and a free dumpster program for safe juniper trimming disposal — officials said. - ➤ The City of Pocatello launched its new mobile app 'Pocatello – The One and Only,' which replaces Poky Connect and uses SeeClickFix to let residents report potholes, clogged storm drains, and overgrown weeds plus get updates on their requests. The app also lets users attach photos and videos and access key city services. East Idaho News
- ➤ A pilot childcare program—KIDS First Coalition—launched Wednesday through a partnership between Bannock County and United Way to help working families get affordable care. The program uses a tri-share model where employers, employees and local governments share costs to keep parents in the workforce. East Idaho News
- ➤ Today, a record 121 Idaho mayors began a walking challenge organized by the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health that sets a daily goal of 5,000 or 10,000 steps in October and offers grants of $500 for 165,000 steps or $1,000 for 310,000 steps (the funds will support community projects) with extra rewards for walking with children or seniors (including for Halloween costumes). - ➤ On Tuesday, the Pocatello Fire Department added a tiller truck that uses a special steering system+ to help firefighters navigate narrow streets more quickly. The truck, called Truck 1, has a 107-foot ladder and Response Training Group will train its operators in two weeks+ to improve rescue efforts. East Idaho News

- ➤ Sixty-three schools from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah competed yesterday at the annual Bob Conley Cross-Country Meet held at Portneuf Wellness Complex—hosted by Highland High School and featuring 12 races including two 3K middle school competitions where teams like Idaho Falls and Highland earned top honors.
