- ➤ Pocatello Animal Services and Phil Meador Subaru will host the annual Subaru Loves Pets event on Saturday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shelter on 3100 Avenue of the Chiefs—families can choose their own adoption fee as Subaru covers the rest while adopting dogs, cats or small critters that are spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccines. - ➤ Harvest Church Young Adults invites the community to a Charlie Kirk tribute concert at the Idaho State University quad on Oct. 10—locals will gather for an evening of music that honors his influence. Idaho State Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lisa Brian’s Haunted History Tour starts this weekend in Historic Downtown Pocatello and will visit five buildings during the walking tour held every Friday and Saturday in October—tickets cost $25 per person to fund historic downtown projects. KPVI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pocatello received a $4.84 million USDA grant today to reduce wildfire risk across 1,350 acres of city open space from east to west benches along the Portneuf river— the grant will fund fire training, community outreach and a 'Juniper Dump' program offering free dumpsters for safe juniper trimming disposal to residents and 16 local landowners. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Idaho Department of Labor issued guidance for federal workers furloughed by the shutdown, explaining that workers must file online or at local offices and will not receive their first unemployment payment until three weeks after filing—federal workers should gather all required documents and note that back pay may lead to repayment of benefits. - ➤ The Bannock County board of commissioners will hold public hearings on October 21 in room 212 of the Bannock County Courthouse (discussing areas of city impact for McCammon, Downey, Pocatello, Chubbuck, Arimo, Inkom and Lava Hot Springs). KPVI
- ➤ Bannock County has extended its burn ban until October 15 because dry fuels and low moisture keep wildfire risks high. Fire officials said campfires in campgrounds and at private residences are allowed if they meet strict safety guidelines (no open burning in high-risk areas). Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ The Bannock County Sheriff's Office has built a photo display wall in its lobby to honor 20 sheriffs who served over 132 years—nineteen have retired and one is still in service. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ The Pocatello Fire Department added a new state-of-the-art aerial truck Tuesday to improve its response to high-rise emergencies — the truck is expected to help firefighters reach upper floors faster. Idaho State Journal

- ➤ Idaho health officials are urging residents to review their Medicare plans because private insurance carriers have changed policies and open enrollment will begin Oct. 15. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ Idaho State University Family Medicine will host a Maternity and Pediatric Fair on Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Pond Student Union Building Ballroom. Families will meet with maternity and pediatric specialists — join live nutrition demonstrations, visit a family wellness zone, see a Pocatello firetruck, and enter a raffle with 500 dollars in prizes.
