- ➤ The 28th annual Southeast Idaho Homeless Stand Down will take place at Pocatello High School Gymnasium on Saturday October 18 and will offer free haircuts, dental care, flu shots, clothing, blankets, housing support and job help along with special services for veterans—helping locals get the aid they need. - ➤ Idaho Power will hold its fall Power of Community Day tomorrow across southern Idaho—volunteers in Pocatello will join Idaho State University at 2:30 p.m. to clean up Red Hill Trail, one of several events planned in the region. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ A downtown bar and Historic Downtown Pocatello will host Bengal Bloctober on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. as two blocks of Center Street will be closed to allow adults 21 and older to enjoy food, drinks, live music and interactive challenges at six local businesses—inviting residents to explore the street as a destination. - ➤ Aiding 2 Adoption Rescue will host its annual Critterfest Adoption and Fundraiser event at PetSmart in Pocatello on Saturday October 11th from Noon to 5pm. The event will include cat and dog adoptions—private meet-ups with foster animals, a pet costume and pumpkin decorating contest, raffles, and a silent auction—and all proceeds will cover medical expenses for animals in need. - ➤ Local gardener Cliff Warren set a state record for the largest tomato, weighing 3.57 pound, at the Center Street Giant Pumpkin Festival in Logan on September 27. Warren, a retired engineer turned school bus driver, has grown giant pumpkins and a 16 foot sunflower over 25 years in the Chubbuck countryside — efforts that continue to bring him local acclaim. - ➤ Veterans of The American Legion Pocatello Post 4 said the 4th Annual Pocatello Veterans Day Parade will be held on November 8th—an event intended to honor local veterans. Idaho State Journal

- ➤ A public restroom at Pocatello Park was vandalized—its toilet and sink broken—and is closed for the season, the city said. KPVI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Parks Service announced restoration projects at three national parks in south Idaho and work will begin this fall to restore the Mission 66 utility building at Craters of the Moon, preserve Block 22 structures at Mini-Doka, and install a fire suppression system at the Hagerman fossil beds. - ➤ Bannock County has extended its burn ban until October 15 due to hazardous fire conditions caused by below-average moisture and dry fuels — local fire officials say the decision protects residents and properties.
