COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Kind Community kicked off its 10th annual Kind Week at Lookout Point Monday night with a ribbon cutting—supported by city officials and the local chamber—to launch activities like sidewalk chalk decorations, youth talent shows, live music and vendor displays. It will continue through September 20 with events such as a community panel, family fun run, motorcycle ride, yoga session and a free day at Zoo Idaho.  KPVI
  • Parolees in Pocatello completed the GEO Reentry Services Connection and Intervention Station program and celebrated their graduation—earning a second chance to rebuild their lives as they rejoin the community.  Idaho State Journal
  • Several hundred locals gathered at ISU’s quad on Saturday evening to honor conservative leader Charlie Kirk, who was killed by an assassin’s bullet last Wednesday—state rep Tanya Burgoyne and Mayor Kevin England spoke about his lasting legacy. The event featured candlelight tributes and flags marking his 31 years, with community prayers and music shared in his memory.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

  • Yellowstone Teton Territory is looking to hire an event sales manager—this effort is meant to boost tourism in eastern Idaho. The new hire will help bring more visitors and support local businesses.  Post Register

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that regional supply issues drove a slight gas price increase on Monday—Idaho's average price was $3.51 per gallon while Pocatello recorded $3.38. AAA said that the switch to winter-blend fuel and steady crude oil prices may help lower costs in coming weeks.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho State University has launched a business pitch competition inviting high school students from Southeast Idaho to submit innovative business ideas for scholarship prizes provided by the Reed E. Ostermeier Entrepreneurship Endowment—registration closes Sept. 26 and first submissions are due by Oct. 10. Semifinal rounds will be held via Zoom the week of Oct. 13 before a final in-person round on Oct. 24 at the ICCU Bengal Alumni Center.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews have made progress on the Dollar Lake Fire on over 19,000 acres, which is now 62% contained—with drones checking for heat sources and evacuation orders for Red Cliff Bible Camp and Moose Gypsum Road downgraded as wildlife begins returning. Residents should remain ready to leave if conditions change.  KPVI

  • A Pocatello native — a former Team USA coach who led his players to over 300 international medals — will be enshrined as the first Idahoan in the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame.  Idaho State Journal
