- ➤ SIECAA is making a final push with its HandsUp donation campaign to raise $50,000 by year-end for programs that help with affordable housing, energy bills, and Meals on Wheels + it has raised $11,000 so far, and CEO Joe Borich said the funds will go directly back into community support. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Today, Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott announced that Andrea O’Brien of Pocatello was sentenced to 70 months after officers discovered methamphetamine and a loaded Glock during a traffic stop—Curtis Campbell of American Falls received 143 months for multiple meth sales and Jessica Elison of Pocatello was sentenced to 60 months after a vehicle breakdown led to the recovery of large amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana. - ➤ Andrae Kenneth Griggs, 37, was arrested after allegedly climbing through a window on Richland Avenue to break into a home, assault a woman and steal her keys—and he now faces charges of robbery, burglary, controlled substance possession and misdemeanor battery with a court appearance set for Sept. 16. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Portneuf Pollinator Partnership and Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust are celebrating Idaho’s Monarch Butterfly throughout September as it migrates toward winter in California—organizers will be at the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market at Lookout Point in Pocatello tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hand out free milkweed seed packets. - ➤ Candidates filed to run for city council and mayor seats in Pocatello, Chubbuck, Blackfoot, American Falls, Shelley, Soda Springs, and Montpelier. Write-in candidates may file their names today and voters will choose new leaders on Nov. 4. East Idaho News
- ➤ Community leaders and Idaho Department of Correction officials broke ground on a new $12M reentry center on Pocatello's south side Wednesday afternoon—designed to help former inmates rejoin the community. Post Register
