CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 40-year-old local man, who was cited with animal cruelty last month, now faces a felony charge for allegedly punching a deputy when a judge denied his release at Bannock County Jail. Idaho State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 began enforcing a full ban on cellphones in class, requiring all students to turn off and store their devices—this follows a successful pilot at Highland High that showed increased engagement and fewer failed classes. Administrators said students can still access phones during emergencies by storing them in their backpacks. East Idaho News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pocatello police are investigating threats made against a public official that led to an emergency, closed executive session held yesterday by city council with Police Chief Roger Schei and the mayor in attendance — officials have not yet disclosed the nature of the threats. Local News 8
- ➤ Bannock County Commissioners approved the 2026 budget on August 28 with planned cuts to programs at Aid for Friends, Pocatello Free Clinic, and the Veterans Memorial Building—commissioner raises of 14% were funded by reallocating budgeted staff funds. Commissioners admitted the cuts may hurt nonprofits and promised revisions to restore funding in the coming weeks. Local News 8
