- ➤ Today at Grace Assisted Living, a local World War II veteran celebrated his 101st birthday with a car parade—cars were decorated in red, white, and blue. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ Pocatello's annual Parade of Homes is underway this weekend as local builders showcase 10 new homes for public tours while hundreds attended tours on Thursday to view the design features and house styles—highlighting local craftsmanship. Local News 8
- ➤ On Friday, the Boise-based Idaho Community Foundation stopped in Pocatello to present a $10,000 grant to local nonprofit Community Suicide Prevention — the grant funds suicide prevention education and resources in 16 counties and is part of the foundation’s '$200 Million Moment' tour celebrating nearly 40 years of philanthropic work. - ➤ Pocatello’s Maag Prescription and Medical Supply celebrated 75 years in business on Friday by hosting a community barbecue—owner Traci Maag said the event honored generations of loyal customers. - ➤ A local youth program teaches kids how to build and race cars at RXR Auto Works in Pocatello. Bridger Andres runs the program for ages 13 to 18 and the team earned third place in a race after building a car in about three months — they meet every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. KPVI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bannock County released its $102.8 million proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year and asked residents to share feedback on plans covering court services, law enforcement, landfill management and improvement projects — a public hearing is set for August 26th at 11 a.m. in the commissioner’s chambers. KPVI
- ➤ The Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety joined statewide law enforcement agencies in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign—which began on Aug. 15 and will run for several days—to help reduce drunk driving. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ The City of Pocatello is accepting candidate filings for the general election on November 4, with filing opening Monday, August 18 at 8:00 a.m. at City Hall—candidates must submit a declaration with a $40 fee or a petition signed by five local electors by Friday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
