COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Andrzej and Teresea Abraszewski gave $50,000 to the Portneuf Greenway Foundation in honor of their late son Paul to fund a new trail connection between the Simplot/Swanson and Abrazewski trails that will link the Pacific Recycling Trail Head, Sacajawea Park and Historic Downtown Pocatello; more details on the new trail and its start date will come later.  KPVI
  • Rumors Pub in Pocatello will host its annual Make a Wish event on Saturday at noon at 2227 Garrett Way—this year granting Sawyer's wish for a trip to Disney World, marking 14 years of the event. The event will bring local families together during a challenging time.  KPVI

CRIME NEWS

  • The Idaho Transportation Department and local law enforcement will launch a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign tomorrow–running through September 1 to curb impaired driving ahead of Labor Day. In 2024, impaired driving claimed 86 lives in Idaho.  KPVI
  • Todd Brewer admitted to shooting and injuring two police officers during a 2022 call on his girlfriend dispute and was sentenced to 20 years fixed, 10 years indeterminate in prison—he and the injured officers were treated at Portnuef Medical Center.  Local News 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Layne Bowen, a local singer with two years of live experience, opened for Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top at the Portneuf Trust Amphitheatre Thursday night — he described the unexpected booking as a dream gig that thrilled local fans and underscored a growing local music scene. His performance marked a significant step in showcasing hometown talent in a major setting.  KPVI
  • The Fort Hall Business Council is inviting Shoshone-Bannock Tribal artists to submit original artwork for a new or updated Tribal Seal — the design will better reflect today’s community.  Idaho State Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has issued a salvage order at Deep Creek Reservoir effective today through Sep 19 to let anglers take fish with most limits lifted before dam repairs lower water levels—anglers must still hold a valid fishing license and follow method and live fish transport rules.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bannock County released its FY26 budget proposal on August 14, detailing $102.8 million for services like law enforcement, courts, and landfill management while lowering the tax cost by $15.44 per $100,000 of taxable value. Residents are invited to a public hearing on August 26 at 11 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers at 624 E Center Street—this meeting will gather community feedback on the spending plan.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • The City of Pocatello announced that Riverside Golf Course will soon welcome the Connections Credit Union Clubhouse. The new facility will have 3,300 square feet on its main floor and a full basement for storing golf carts — demolition of the old building will begin after the new clubhouse opens next year.  KPVI
