COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Marshall Public Library is collecting school supplies and hygiene products at its first floor checkout desk until September 13 — donations will support the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District 25 supply pantry for local families in need.  Local News 8
  • The Bannock County Fair will continue this week in Downey as fire dancers—high flying dirt bikes, twisted trash cars and acrobats captivate audiences.  Idaho State Journal
  • Naomi Rose Randall from Filer reconnected with her biological family after posting a baby photo on Facebook on July 30 and receiving a message from her aunt within 15 minutes—she then drove to Chubbuck and met her birth parents and siblings in an emotional reunion. Randall said the meeting confirmed her search for her roots and opened a new chapter that lets her kids know both sides of their family.  East Idaho News
  • Keith and Amber Cook launched the Hello Pocatello podcast, Facebook page, and blog last month to share local stories and show what makes our town special—early episodes featured guests like Terry Fredrickson and Nick Hottman. The couple will add more episodes soon and build a local resources directory to help residents find new opportunities.  East Idaho News
  • On August 4, first responders from Teams Pocatello and Chubbuck competed in a speed rib-eating contest at Texas Roadhouse during the Dine to Donate Fundraiser—Team Pocatello won and their donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Idaho will support local after-school, STEM, and child mental health programs.  Local News 8

  • The Bingham County Sheriff's Office discovered a scam where a caller falsely claimed a jailed family member would be released with an ankle monitor if $600 was paid & warned that they never solicit such payments over the phone.  KPVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes announced they will host their 60th annual Indian Festival this week at Fort Hall Reservation—inviting community members to join this traditional celebration.  Post Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bannock County officials cut the ribbon on a new 8,500-square-foot Exhibit Hall during Monday evening’s county fair kickoff in Downey — the building, funded by county and ARPA funds, will host exhibits during the fair and be available for community events afterward.  East Idaho News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Registration is open for the Pocatello Fall Ultra mountain bike race on Sept. 13 at Centennial Park—riders can choose a 20k, 60k, 100k, or kids’ race as part of a dual challenge with Park City Point 2 Point. Race director Scott Peterson said the event has grown and that safety measures have been approved with Southeastern Idaho Public Health to protect volunteers and participants.  East Idaho News
