  • The Pocatello Free Clinic is marking 54 years of service with a Pint Night Fundraiser at Jim Dandy Brewing in Pocatello on Thursday, August 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will have live music+ raffles+ a silent auction+ food and drinks, with 10 percent of beverage sales benefiting the clinic.  KPVI
  • A new exhibit hall has opened at Bannock County Fairgrounds as a central venue for the county fair and other community events. The 8500 square foot facility, which replaces four condemned halls, was completed last week and is located at 225 W. Center St — county official Daniel Kendall said it is designed for multi-purpose use.  KPVI
  • The Great Snake River Greenbelt will host a duck race Saturday where 30,000 rubber ducks will race to make a big splash+ the ducks will not waddle, quack, or fly south for winter.  Post Register
  • Haderlie Family Farm earned a Century honor that recognizes its more than 100 years of operation+ officials noted the award underscores the farm’s key role in local agriculture.  Post Register
  • First responders from Pocatello and Chubbuck took part in a messy rib-eating contest at Texas Roadhouse Monday night to raise money for local charities. The Pocatello team finished first to support the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Idaho—while Chubbuck's funds went to Bright Tomorrows and the restaurant donated ten percent of food sales to the winning charity.  KPVI

  • Pocatello police and firefighters rescued an elderly couple from a house engulfed in heavy smoke and flames—officials say both received medical care for smoke exposure.  Idaho State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Susan Dorene Irene Stone, a Bannock County woman, is accused of stealing $1,884 in lottery tickets from her employer between March 23 and March 25, 2024—court documents note that the tickets yielded only $375 in winnings and list three counts of presenting illegal tickets plus one count of grand theft, with her preliminary hearing set for August 14.  East Idaho News

  • Idaho State University announced it will build a new esports arena with a $520K donation from Direct Communications— the company is partnering with the school on the project.  Idaho State Journal

  • Fire crews battled two wildfires in the Fort Hall area over the weekend that scorched 56 acres — officials warn conditions may worsen. They said extra resources are ready if needed.  Idaho State Journal
