COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farm Bureau donated $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Idaho and visited Syringa Elementary School in Pocatello to view student projects; club President Jean Haneke said the funds will help pay for summer and fall staff.  KPVI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 46-year-old man from Pocatello drove a 2004 Peterbilt semi on I-86 near American Falls when another vehicle cut him off at about 9:40 a.m.—forcing him to slam the brakes and spill hay bales that blocked both lanes for roughly 90 minutes—and no injuries were reported.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A retrospective by EastIdahoNews.com looked back at key moments in east Idaho history—a 1915 burglary in Blackfoot where a thief stole a widow's wedding ring and valuables, a 1927 firecracker accident in Declo that injured a man's eye, a 1958 incident in Burley where an 8‑year‑old boy saved himself from drowning using a trick he saw on TV, and a 1976 near-electrocution of a Pocatello school truck driver who was later discharged from hospital.  East Idaho News
  • The World War II B-25 bomber 'Maid in the Shade' recently landed in Gate City, giving Pocatello residents a chance to connect with a piece of history. The landing offers a rare opportunity to learn about local heritage during the era.  Idaho State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The BLM Pocatello Field Office is inviting locals to review a draft budget plan that would raise camping fees at campgrounds like Blackfoot Reservoir, Redpoint, Maple Grove and Pipeline—comments are accepted until August 15. The plan proposes a $10 increase for camping and higher boat ramp fees to cover rising labor costs.  Local News 8
  • Idaho State University received a $141,000 grant from the Idaho Office of Emergency Management to boost wildfire preparedness in Pocatello. The Disaster Mitigation Response Capacity Enhancement project (led by the Bannock County Office, ISU’s Geographic Information Systems department, and the Master of Public Administration program) will study and map high-risk areas until July 2027.  Local News 8
  • With the final lane markers painted, the I‑86/I‑15 Flying‑Y Interchange in Pocatello wraps up a three-year, $112 million project that began in July 2022 — improving ramp safety and traffic flow. ITD said crews will soon complete shoulder work and native grass seeding to finish the project.  Local News 8
  • Bannock County commissioners are considering defunding the Veterans Memorial Building after a June budget meeting raised concerns over its water-damage restoration—officials plan to review county funding in upcoming sessions.  Idaho State Journal
  • The Idaho Public Safety Communications Commission approved a $15 million grant on July 10 to upgrade its emergency response system to Next Generation 911—this funding will boost the state’s safety response in future emergencies.  Idaho State Journal
