COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city of Pocatello announced that the Optimist Skate Park will open on July 25th at 12:15 p.m. at 972 North 7th Avenue—covering about 8000 square feet with ramps, stairs, ledges, rails and a bowl that is 41 feet long and six feet deep at one end.  KPVI
  • The Eastern Idaho State Fair named Gene and Marietta Womack as this year’s grand marshals—honoring their decades of work for the fair, fellow veterans and the City of Blackfoot. The couple will lead the parade in September.  KPVI
  • The Southeast Idaho Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force held a fundraiser Thursday night at Goody’s Pub to support Family Services Alliance. Country singer Dawson Moon performed live + silent auctions, food, and music were offered to help victims of abuse and domestic violence + all funds will aid critical services.  KPVI
  • The Bannock County Veterans Memorial Association is asking for donations to fix flood damage to its nearly 100-year-old memorial built for local veterans. The group has raised $43,000 so far — it must raise another $100,000 by the end of August to qualify for a matching donation that will help cover a $325,000 repair bill from damage incurred in December 2024.  Local News 8
  • A local family that works with therapy animals is asking for help after a fire displaced them and many of their animals from their south home—neighbors are encouraged to lend support as they recover.  Idaho State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Pocatello contractor Glendon Ashley Smith, 48, was charged with seven felony counts of grand theft after seven homeowners said he took over $64,000 from them—he also used the Smith Roofing trade name despite a court order banning its use.  East Idaho News

  • Idaho State University and the College of Eastern Idaho announced a new partnership to boost student experience and expand learning access in Idaho Falls — Greater Eastern Idaho. The collaboration aims to address the state’s program shortage and offer more learning opportunities.  Post Register

  • Idaho Fish and Game will release nearly 10,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout at several locations in the Southeast Region during July. The schedule covers waters such as Crystal Springs Pond, Cub River, Kelly Park Pond, Mill Creek, Montpelier Creek, Montpelier Rearing Pond, and Pebble Creek—though dates may change due to weather or staffing constraints.  Local News 8
