CRIME NEWS

  • Pocatello police arrested roofing contractor Glendon Ashley Smith on June 6 outside Juniper Hills Country Club after several homeowners said his company did not complete work for over $60,000—he now faces seven felony counts of grand theft that could result in decades in prison if convicted.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The multicultural festival returns to Pocatello for its second year and will be held Friday, June 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lookout Point in honor of World Refugee Day — featuring traditional dishes from 25 countries, games, flags, dances and costumes. Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad will read a proclamation supporting cultural diversity — a key part of the event.  KPVI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Idaho reported on June 16 that Idaho’s regular gas was priced at $3.29, unchanged from last week and last month yet 29 cents lower than a year ago—despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East between Israel and Iran that have not affected supply. The West Texas Intermediate crude oil benchmark traded near $71 per barrel, a level that could push pump prices higher if it persists.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pocatello construction crews are improving pedestrian safety at Greenacres Elementary by upgrading crossings and sidewalks— the project, funded through a $250,000 grant and state funds, will add new curbs, gutters, and safety features by the end of summer while keeping walkways open.  East Idaho News
  • Arlyn McCulloch, an art teacher at Franklin Middle School, draws strong reactions in Pocatello with his ceramic art sold at the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through October. His classes use edible clay for hands-on projects that let students engage all of their senses—making ceramics a favorite part of his teaching.  KPVI
