COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Donor Connect will host their annual Gift of Life walk-run on June 28 at the Portneuf Wellness Complex to connect donors with recipients - Annie Grayson said her late husband John, who donated his tissue and eyes after his death last March, helped save lives. This event will continue his legacy and encourage others to donate.  KPVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The musical School of Rock will play at Stephens Performing Arts Center on June 20 at 7:30 p.m.—a live preview will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market to give locals a taste of the show.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two moon trees that traveled over a million miles arrived in Idaho when the Idaho Museum of Natural History received one in May and American Falls High School received one in June 2024. The tree growing in the Life Sciences Greenhouse at Idaho State University will be planted during the university’s 125th Anniversary kick-off celebration in August or September — part of an effort to boost STEM education.  East Idaho News
  • Pocatello middle school students ride bikes in the Ride for Focus program, which began last school year and now runs in all district schools using a grant that provided bikes, helmets, and teacher training. The program boosts focus and confidence by mixing regular rides with bike safety lessons & efforts by local resource officers to keep students safe.  East Idaho News
  • The Idaho Department of Education said federal Summer Food Service Program meal sites are now open for students on summer break + families can use the USDA meal finder or call Idaho Care Line at 2-1-1 to locate a nearby site for children ages 1 through 18.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today is National Secure Your Load Day and the Idaho Transportation Department's highway safety office reminds drivers to secure their loads to prevent crashes—data from 2018 to 2022 showed that unsecured loads caused 82 injuries and two deaths, and Idaho law requires loads to be fastened.  KPVI
  • Local resident Dakota Bates was sworn in as a member of the Pocatello City Council Thursday evening, replacing Josh Mansfield who resigned in April to attend law school.  Idaho State Journal
  • The Idaho Transportation Department warned residents about scam texts claiming to be from the DMV offering online payment for expedited Real IDs—officials stressed that applications must be completed in person and recipients should not click any links or share personal information.  KPVI
