COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A month into the season, the Portneuf Valley Farmers Market launched a rewards program that lets shoppers earn money back when they collect stickers on a printed card—1,500 cards were printed and 1,300 have been handed out so far. The market runs every Saturday until October from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lookout Point in Pocatello.  KPVI
  • Valley Mission, a local nonprofit, faces challenges reaching a hidden homeless population in Pocatello and is expanding its services with a new shelter in the old Metropolitan Health Spa building (local police data indicate an increase as more people move in from other states), while accepting financial and in-kind donations at First Baptist Church. This effort aims to meet growing needs in the community.  Local News 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Downtown Pocatello Inc. said the restored neon sign will shine again at the inaugural Neon Fest on July 11-12 to celebrate a local committee's work on reviving the city's historic light. The two-day festival will host events that honor Pocatello's heritage—more details are expected.  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College of Eastern Idaho was hit with a cyber attack last week when a student used a personal laptop to access an external website + malware including a trojan horse entered its network and the school shut down its systems as a safety measure. IT said no evidence of a student or staff breach was found and summer courses will run normally while there is no timeline for full network restoration.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Pocatello firefighters conducted a live Burn and Learn Training near Home Depot at 4335 Hawthorne Road to gain hands-on experience in studying fire patterns and improving investigation methods. The training started around 8 a.m. and was set to last until 5 p.m.—drivers near the area were advised to use caution due to intermittent smoke.  Local News 8
  • Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad nominated Dakota Bates for the vacant city council seat after reviewing 17 applications and interviewing six candidates. The council will vote on his confirmation on Thursday, and if confirmed, Bates (clinic manager at Hannah’s Place) will serve until December.  East Idaho News

  • Portneuf Cancer Center will host a survivor barbecue on Saturday, June 7 from 12-2 pm at Portneuf Wellness Complex Pavilion 4—inviting current and former patients plus their families to reconnect with doctors and staff while enjoying yard games and lunch.  Local News 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Highland junior Spencer Van Orden repeated as state champion in the 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles on June 3 by lowering his 300 hurdles record to 36.51 seconds and nearly breaking his 110 hurdle record while also placing third in the 100 meter race and with the four by 400 relay team. He now prepares for an active recruiting process and a bid for further titles in 2026 — his strong performance at the Arcadia Invitational in California bolstered his growing resume.  East Idaho News
