COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Registration is available for parade floats and vendors for Chubbuck Day on August 8 at 10:00 a.m. with the festival at Cotant Park following at 11:00 a.m.; sign-ups must be in by July 1 to guarantee a spot + no entries will be accepted after July 30.  KPVI
  • Portneuf Valley Partners broke ground on a 1-acre community garden at King Street and North Arthur Ave (attended by 30 officials and residents) on Thursday. Phase one will offer 34 plots and gardening classes, with the full project expected to be ready by spring.  Local News 8
  • Chubbuck will host its annual Chubbuck Days Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 8. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m.+ the festival at Cotant Park begins at 11:00 a.m., and registration ends July 1 to secure a spot.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Idaho Power warns drivers that Memorial Day weekend begins the 100 deadliest driving days until Labor Day (with rising crashes from speeding, distractions, and impaired driving), so motorists should drive sober and watch for kids near roadways.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Idaho International Choral Festival will take place from July 15 to 18 in Pocatello and organizers need 40 additional host families to offer transportation, lodging (and some meals) for international singers traveling to Idaho State University. Families can sign up to help support this cultural event.  KPVI
  • Idaho State University will present the state's first amateur production of 'Dear Evan Hansen' with a preview at Portneuf Valley Farmer's Market at 10 a.m. today, and six full performances starting June 12 at Stephens Performing Arts Center. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Public schools statewide, including in Pocatello, are cutting staff for the upcoming school year due to falling enrollment and rising costs. District officials reported that most cuts will occur through attrition as districts face flat state funding plus higher operational expenses.  East Idaho News
  • Recently, eighth graders from Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, Firth, Fort Hall and Pocatello visited Idaho National Laboratory to explore hands-on STEM careers.  Post Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pocatello Regional Transit is offering free summer youth passes for riders 18 and under; the pass is available at the main location (and several community pickup spots) until the end of August.  KPVI
  • Drivers in southeast Idaho should prepare for lane closures, detours, and delays as the Idaho Transportation Department begins three road projects this summer. The projects stretch from American Falls and will affect travel across the area.  Idaho State Journal
