COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Zoo Idaho hosts Free Zoo Day this Saturday, May 30 in Pocatello from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event, supported by Connections Credit Union (community partner), offers a photo booth, kid activities, free hot dogs, chips and water from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., plus a $500 summer giveaway.  KPVI
  • Today, Pocatello began work on its first community garden — a project to transform a long-unused city-owned lot north of the Water Department on Arthur Avenue into a neighborhood green space.  Idaho State Journal
  • Family Services Alliance of Southeast Idaho will host its 11th annual Celebration of Voices event on Thursday, June 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at Martlet Brewery + Public House in Pocatello as survivors share art, music, and stories to promote healing.  KPVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building marked its 100th anniversary on Memorial Day, May 28, with community members gathering to honor local veterans. The event featured speeches from leaders and award presentations to celebrate the building's legacy (a civic landmark) in our community.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Dozens of vintage Porsche 911s rolled through Pocatello on Wednesday afternoon+ their flat-six engines announcing a memorable pit stop amid a Rocky Mountain trek, giving local enthusiasts a flash of classic auto power.  Idaho State Journal
  • The Bannock County Historical Society invites the public to step back to the 19th century this Saturday during the 63rd Fort Hall Replica Celebration (a unique frontier experience) in Pocatello.  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho State University in Pocatello launched three-year Bachelor of Applied Science programs in law enforcement management, applied business and professional sales, and digital systems. The new degrees require only 90 credits—allowing students to enter the workforce sooner.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Caribou-Targhee National Forest will sell firewood permits starting June 1. The permit includes tags, a map, and a handout, costs $6.25 per cord with a minimum of four cords and a maximum eight per household (valid until November 30) for collecting firewood.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fort Hall Business Council of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes passed a resolution opposing data center development on the Fort Hall Reservation due to water concerns, and the move is expected to shape upcoming land use discussions.  Idaho State Journal
  • On May 27, the Fort Hall Business Council opposed data center development on the Fort Hall Reservation and adjacent ceded lands, citing concerns over limited water, energy shortages, and cultural impacts. The Tribes insist that future projects require government-to-government consultation to protect Tribal sovereignty (and traditional rights).  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials confirmed Tuesday that a bat found in Bannock County tested positive for rabies — marking the first confirmed case in southeastern Idaho.  Post Register
