  • Idaho’s Free Fishing Day next month offers young anglers a massive gear giveaway with free fishing, poles, and tackle boxes at designated spots statewide (check local listings for details).  Idaho State Journal
  • The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking for the new Pocatello Community Garden at noon Friday at the corner of King and Arthur - directly north of the State facility. Community leaders plan for the garden to provide a new local space for residents.  Idaho State Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Students and staff evacuated Highland High School on Wednesday afternoon after a trash fire started in a bathroom waste can; officials reported that students re-entered around 2:50 p.m. following a prompt emergency response.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ellen Belnap's 90th birthday will be celebrated with a free variety show on May 30 at 7 p.m. at the Marsh Valley High School Performing Arts Center. Her children and grandchildren will perform songs and group numbers (a tribute to her love of music and community).  East Idaho News
  • The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho will launch its June membership drive in Idaho Falls, offering a 10 percent discount on new memberships. Residents can join the growing creative community at the museum as it expands its art exhibits.  Post Register

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City has updated the Portneuf Valley Tree Guide to help property owners choose trees that thrive locally and to pinpoint sites for viewing these plants—contest entries are accepted until July 31, with printed copies available at nurseries and City Hall on 911 North 7th Avenue as well as online.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Portneuf Medical Center has partnered with Huntsman Cancer Institute to expand local oncology services and improve cancer care options. The ceremony happened Tuesday evening at PMC (in Pocatello), and officials said the new affiliation will help keep care local and reduce travel for specialized treatments.  East Idaho News
