COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday, May 22, Pocatello honored fallen heroes at the 22nd annual Idaho Field of Heroes Memorial at Century High School Soccer Field, where volunteers placed 7,086 markers for members from Iraq, Afghanistan + 97 post-9/11 markers. Today, a Run to Remember at 9 a.m. and more events continue the tribute.  KPVI
  • A revised immigration policy now lets a local Catholic pastor remain in his parish, keeping the community together as he feels finally home. The change brings needed stability for the growing congregation.  Idaho State Journal
  • The 'Pocatello Pirates' are hosting a potluck today from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Glen Allen Project (next to Lookout Point), where community members can share meals and support local restaurant involvement.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District 25 Board is accepting applications for a trustee role after longtime board member Jim Facer resigned on May 21 — Zone 3 residents must apply by June 23, with interviews on June 25 and June 29 and swearing-in on July 21.  Local News 8
  • Donors at PCSD 25 Lunch Debt Challenge gathered early in May at the district office on Pole Line Road and raised $21,485 + tripled the $6,100 goal to cover school lunch debt. Officials and organizers thanked the community for its quick support.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pocatello Police Department honored Captain Chad Higbee on Thursday as he retires after 32 years of service — city leadership, family and law enforcement gathered to recognize his career. He began in 1994 and served as an instructor and key member of the Drug Recognition Expert program.  Local News 8

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new affordable housing complex is planned for South Second Avenue in Pocatello. Alex Arona said the project aims to offer quality homes to local families, with more design and opening details expected soon.  Idaho State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pocatello will host the Bannock County PRCA Rodeo over Memorial Day Weekend featuring bull riding, clown comedy, and trick riding cowgirls. The event includes 15 bull riders each night—awarding a 'Fan of the Night' Big Bucks Buckle to the crowd's loudest fan.  Local News 8
