COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city announced Lazy River resistance walking season will begin at Ross Park Aquatic Complex on June 2 and run through August 15. It said water walking is a low-impact workout that is easy on joints — and is open to participants 16 and older.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • A new Food Truck Fest will start on June 6 in the U-Save parking lot on Yellowstone Avenue, where local food truck owners will host weekly events from 4 to 9 p.m.—offering rotating menus and occasional live music to bring the community together.  East Idaho News
  • Volunteers helped clean up the Portneuf Wellness Complex on Wednesday afternoon by laying mulch, pulling weeds, and picking up trash while checking playground equipment—Healthy City USA hosted its fifth annual event with support from Connections Credit Union and Citizens Community Bank to get the complex ready for summer activities.  KPVI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A minivan careened off a city street in Pocatello — the driver suffered a medical emergency — and drove about 50 yards through a neighborhood before crashing into a tree, sending three people to a hospital.  Idaho State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • The former owner of Downard Funeral Home in Pocatello accepted a plea agreement for mistreating deceased bodies and sending fake remains to families; Lance Peck, who faced 22 felony charges and 63 misdemeanor charges (for fraud and misrepresentation), is set for a status conference on June 9 where he will plead guilty.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Friends of Edson Fichter Nature Area and National Pollinator Pathways Organization are hosting National Pollinator Week starting June 17 to teach locals about insects and animals that help plants reproduce and how to create pollinator-friendly gardens + raise awareness. Hannah Clawson warned that without these pollinators, much of our food supply could be at risk.  Local News 8

  • During the June 5 meeting at 6 p.m. at 911 North 7th Avenue, the Pocatello City Council will take public comments on the proposed South 5th Avenue Area Wide Plan — interested residents may submit oral or written testimony following set time limits.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • The City of Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission in partnership with the Friends of the Brady Chapel will host a Memorial Day Open House at Mountain View Cemetery on May 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—featuring a special noon presentation on the chapel’s history—and reviewing ongoing restoration efforts.  Local News 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 30th, the American Red Cross will open a new blood donation center at 4233 Yellowstone Avenue, Suite 101, replacing its old site at Pine Ridge Mall. The center will accept donations on Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the current location will collect blood through May 27th.  KPVI
