COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, volunteers began setting up the annual Field of Heroes Memorial at Century High School in Pocatello—trucks began arriving at 9:00 a.m. and work continued until 8:00 p.m.—and volunteers will work from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. today through Thursday.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • The Pocatello Rotary Club dedicated a Little Free Library at Ellis Elementary School in a joint celebration with school staff and students—showing its commitment to free access to books—and plans to install similar libraries at Lookout Point and the Bonneville Commons in the coming weeks.  Local News 8
  • The Ross Park Aquatic Complex will open at noon on Saturday, May 24 — it will close at 8 p.m. and will offer a new space for local recreation.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Organizers at Century High School are seeking volunteers to continue setting up the Field of Heroes memorial, which honors U.S. veterans who died in the Global War on Terrorism; help was needed starting May 19 and continues through May 22 with cleanup scheduled for May 27 at 8 a.m. at the soccer field — 7801 Diamond Back Drive. The event marked its 21st year and placed 7,064 markers with 97 additional markers for veterans with Idaho ties.  East Idaho News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chubbuck retailer Buckle announced it will move out of Pine Ridge Mall on May 28 and reopen next door in the old Cal Ranch building on May 29—this temporary location will host the store for about a year until a new standalone Buckle is built as part of the mall’s redevelopment into an open-air retail center in 2026.  East Idaho News

CRIME NEWS

  • Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott announced that 32-year-old David Traversa of Utah was sentenced to 156 months—38-year-old Casey Evans of Pocatello received 60 months—for possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute it in eastern Idaho.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ann Swanson, a lifelong Pocatello resident, is running for city council to expand affordable housing, boost small business opportunities, and improve emergency communication + she will kick off her campaign on May 28 at Caldwell Park at 5 p.m.  Local News 8
  • The City of Pocatello published its Road Construction and Traffic Report for the week of May 19, 2025— the report shares road closures and traffic updates to help drivers know what to expect.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Bannock County Assessor's Office said property values will be revaluated after a state study found values were below 90% of market prices. The office will increase assessments for both residential and commercial properties uniformly—this may help avoid significant tax hikes.  Local News 8
