COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ America250 in Idaho announced a Quarter Drive for the Liberty Bell Tour, which will begin its journey this summer to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Families and community members can donate spare change at participating banks + credit unions as the bell travels statewide before returning permanently to the Capitol. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ The Pocatello Model Railroad and Historical Society will host a community open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. showcasing model trains, railroad artifacts, a GEO Trax layout for kids 12 and younger, and a 2026 Spring Raffle (raffle tickets cost $1, $5, or $20). KPVI
- ➤ Two local motorcycle clubs — Fort Hall Savagez and Southeast Idaho Empties — team up with the Boise Bicycle Project to give away 100 bicycles for Pocatello youth on Saturday. Idaho State Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Bannock County Historical Society will celebrate the annual Fort Hall Replica Opening on Saturday, May 30, with free admission and exhibits including food trucks, dancers, tours and kids' activities at the Bannock County Historical Complex. The event has been a tradition since the 1960s and will highlight local history. KPVI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On May 7, Mayor Mark Dahlquist recognized the first graduating class of the Brownfields Job Training Program—funded by an EPA grant in 2025—that certified local workers in hazardous waste operations and asbestos control across seven southeast Idaho counties. The city will offer another training session this fall. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Candidates suggest a temporary suspension or slight reduction of Idaho’s 32-cent-per-gallon gas tax to ease fuel costs during summer travel, a move that may require Gov. Little to call a special legislative session. Officials say pausing the tax could change the $360 million annual funding for highways and local projects. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ Idaho Rep. Tanya Burgoyne is set to face Nate Roberts in the District 29 Seat B primary on May 19. Burgoyne, who won her seat in 2024 over Roberts, will compete as Roberts seeks to regain the office. Idaho State Journal
