COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 11, the City of Pocatello announced the Adventure Seekers Series, a summer program for youth offering four-day outdoor sessions starting with Pocatello Safari from June 2-5 for kids aged 8-10. The program will also host sessions on June 9-12, July 7-10 and July 28-31 with fees between $125 and $205 — families must sign up only if their child can attend all days.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Big Sky champion Donell Morgan returns to Pocatello today to address Idaho State University graduates+he will share his basketball journey and offer career advice. He plans to help guide students as they prepare for their future.  Idaho State Journal
  • Idaho State University honored over 2,000 graduates at its spring commencement ceremonies on May 11, where alumni Donell Morgan and student speakers Scott Bouman and Cristal Castillo advised graduates on building purpose with hard work. President Robert Wagner conferred degrees and the ceremony featured an honor song by Medicine Thunder Drum Group and dancers who celebrated the students' dedication.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials in Pocatello received notice that two federal grants totaling over $17 million — a $16.4 million EPA grant and a $1 million forestry grant — were canceled, and the city will dispute the decision under federal grant regulations. City leaders said they plan to challenge the cuts to restore funding for planned infrastructure improvements.  East Idaho News
  • Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad announced that he received 17 applications for Council Seat #4 and narrowed the pool to six candidates, and he will submit his final selections for confirmation at a City Council meeting with an appointment expected by early June—once confirmed, the new member will serve until January 2026 with the seat up for election in November.  East Idaho News
  • On May 5, members of Patriots for Liberty & Constitution discussed Article II, Section 2 of the U.S Constitution and Federalist 43 at 6:30 p.m. at Mountain Valley Baptist Church, 202 S. 7th Avenue, and the public was invited to attend.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
