- ➤ Creston Dale Kindness, 42 from Fort Hall, was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl—his call from jail after a high-speed chase led to this sentence, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott. Idaho State Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two East Idaho school districts experienced ransomware attacks that disrupted computer systems and forced weeks of offline learning—Jefferson County rebuilt nearly 5,000 devices after a late January attack while American Falls recovered using a disconnected backup after a late March incident. Both districts worked with the FBI and insurers to strengthen their security measures, and American Falls announced it will hold an annual technology-free week. East Idaho News

- ➤ The Bannock County Commissioners discussed a potential project on May 1 to update the county complex at 5500 S 5th Avenue that holds the Road and Bridge, Planning, GIS Departments and the County Coroner’s office— the project is estimated at about $5.1 million and could be phased over three budget cycles. - ➤ The ITD awarded J.R. Simplot Company the Adopt-A-Highway Group of the Year Award for southeast Idaho at a board meeting in Pocatello on May 4th. The team—averaging 37 employees—cleans a two-mile section of Highway 30 between mileposts 330 and 332 and picks up over 1,600 pounds of litter each year. East Idaho News
