  • AMVETS of Pocatello hosts its monthly Pancake Breakfast today from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building (300 N. Johnson Ave), serving pancakes, eggs, bacon, and more with $12 admission and free meals for first responders and kids 5 and under.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • A rescue dog once marked for euthanasia joined the police force at a City Council ceremony on Thursday afternoon. K-9 Boo, an 8-month-old Belgian Malinois, will work with Cpl. Brendan Howard and live with his family on her days off.  East Idaho News

  • The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho will transform into an unexpected performance venue on Saturday, May 9 as Sound Jam gives teen musicians a chance to showcase their talents locally.  Post Register
  • The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho will open its new exhibition (Sacred Spaces: Visions of the West from the Prosaic to the Sublime) next week with an Artwalk preview on May 7, a public reception on May 8 and a live artist demonstration on May 9.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Idaho State Board of Education approved higher tuition rates for public four-year colleges due to state budget cuts. The changes will affect students in upcoming academic sessions.  Idaho State Journal
  • The City of Pocatello Water Department will host its 32nd Annual Open House in celebration of National Drinking Water Week from May 4 to May 7 at the Water Operations Facility (1889 N.   • Pocatello teens Isaac Giesbrecht and Gage Staples, juniors at Century High School and PV-TEC, will compete in the EMT category at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta from June 1 to June 5. A GoFundMe campaign seeks to meet a $6,000 goal + aid their travel.  East Idaho News
  • The Pocatello - Chubbuck School District 25 Education Foundation will join the Idaho Gives Campaign from Monday, May 4 to Thursday, May 7 to support classroom innovations, scholarships and other programs via donor-directed gifts.   • Firefighters from several departments are battling a fast-moving wildfire burning in fields west of Arimo, and they are quickly deploying resources — aiming to contain the blaze and safeguard nearby communities.  Idaho State Journal

  • The Idaho Transportation Department warns residents about scam texts that mimic courts, law enforcement and the DMV, using fake case numbers and threats of asset seizure. It advises residents to avoid clicking links + sharing personal details.  KPVI
  • Gov. Brad Little proclaimed May as Wildfire Awareness Month Friday and urged residents to prepare for wildfire season as drying fuels and reduced snowpack set the stage for active fires.
