COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Valley Mission hosted an open house Wednesday afternoon to show the progress of its new facility that will have a food pantry, emergency shelter, and medical clinic. The organization has raised over $23,000 from the Idaho Gives campaign and aims to reach a $150,000 goal by 11:59 p.m. today to complete the pantry this summer. KPVI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Creston Dale Kindness, 42, of Fort Hall, pleaded guilty in June 2024 to possessing and planning to distribute fentanyl and was sentenced today to 100 months in federal prison after officers stopped his speeding vehicle on January 21, 2024—he will also serve five years of supervised release. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School District 25 announced Gina Gardner as the new principal at Indian Hills Elementary effective July 1; she will replace retiring administrator Jill Johnson after 35 years of service. Gardner has taught at Indian Hills since 2012 and earned a Master's in Educational Leadership from Idaho State University (with strong local ties), promising to build on the school's success. - ➤ The Pocatello City Council will host a public hearing for its Historic Preservation Plan on May 15th at 6 p.m. at city hall—where the public may offer comments—and the plan is available to review on the council website. KPVI
- ➤ Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad and the City Council will host a Town Hall Meeting Tuesday, May 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 911 North 7th Avenue to discuss summer plans for Marshall Public Library and the Parks & Recreation Department; speakers must register by signing the sheet (placed at 5:30 p.m.) for a two-minute Q&A slot. - ➤ The Idaho State Bengals ended their regular season with a mercy-rule win on Saturday at Portland State—freshman pitcher Megan Meracle recorded the first perfect game in ISU history by striking out six batters. The team will enter the Big Sky Softball Championship tournament on Tuesday at 4 p.m.—coach Andrew Rich and Meracle say the win sets them up to chase their first tournament title. East Idaho News
- ➤ The City of Pocatello Recreation Department will launch the Midweek Race Series on May 29, June 5, and June 12—races will start at 6:15 p.m. at a common location. The event will challenge Pocatello’s trail running and mountain biking communities. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
