COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Pocatello Animal Shelter reopens (for adoptions and services) after successful parvovirus containment efforts. Volunteer activities remain suspended as all ten puppies have tested negative and are still under evaluation, so they are not ready for adoption immediately.  KPVI
  • On Tuesday afternoon, the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce held a pre-cleanup event to build excitement for a community-wide spring cleanup scheduled for Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers collected litter in Historic Downtown Pocatello and will join groups to pick up trash in Pocatello and Chubbuck—gloves and trash bags are provided.  KPVI
  • Nearly 100 people attended the 'Empty Chair' Town Hall meeting at Liberty Hall in downtown Pocatello on Friday night to voice concerns about the state of the nation.  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 named Gina Gardner as the new principal of Indian Hills Elementary School (effective July 1) and she will succeed Jill Johnson who will retire at the end of the school year after 35 years of service.  Local News 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will accept applications for fall controlled hunts for deer, elk, pronghorn, swan, fall black bear, and fall turkey from May 1 to June 5. Applications for the first Super Hunt drawing (for hunters with a valid 2025 license) will be accepted through May 31 at gooutdoorsidaho.com, local Fish and Game offices, or authorized hunting license vendors.  Local News 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 21 from 6–8 p.m. and May 28 from 6–8:30 p.m., the City of Pocatello will host a two-part women’s mountain biking clinic that focuses on intermediate trail skills for $20. Participants must bring a mountain bike in good condition, a helmet, and the confidence to ride single track—plus, the second session includes a 6-mile trail ride.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
