COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pocatello Animal Shelter will offer half-priced dog and cat licenses throughout May. Dog licenses can be purchased at the shelter, City Hall, Mckee’s Feed and Garden Center and veterinarian clinics while cat licenses are available only at the shelter—all pets over three months old must be licensed and wear a collar.  KPVI
  • Preschool students in Pocatello danced as the Fire Department hosted its annual Sock Hop today at Head Start Preschool—donating brand new socks for all 156 children from the Firefighters' Union.  Local News 8
  • The newly formed nonprofit Glen Allen Project announced that donations during Idaho Gives 2025 will be matched up to $30,000—additional matching incentives are offered throughout the statewide online campaign running Monday through May 1. GAP will also host events at Lookout Point including a craft buffet and potluck Monday from 4—7 p.m. and a community barbecue Tuesday from 11:30 a.m.—1:30 p.m. to bring local community members together and support creative projects.  East Idaho News
  • At Idaho State University's Spring Graduation on May 10th in the ICU dome, two community leaders will receive honorary degrees for their service. Drusilla Gould, who co-authored an introduction to the Shoshoni language, and Dave Jeppesen, a retired director at the Department of Health and Welfare, will be honored — while ISU alumnus Donnell Morgan will deliver the commencement speech.  KPVI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At least two crashes blocked southbound I-15 near milepost 74.5 north of Pocatello—officers are investigating one incident that involved a construction semi-truck and urged drivers to use detours and drive with caution.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Westside Players are racing to raise funds to repair their nearly 90-year-old theater, the Warehouse, where old heaters failed and the stage now needs a replacement—using a Spotlight Campaign with a $30,000 goal. They will hold a Spotlight Gala on May 3 to offer local entertainment and food while gathering donations for essential repairs.  Local News 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Irving Middle School in Pocatello marked 100 years with an open house Wednesday night—students, alumni, and staff recalled memories from its January 1925 opening and major events like the 1949 fire and rebuild. Many local families with long ties to the school shared fond memories and look forward to its future legacy.  KPVI
