COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Launched on March 29, the Pocatello-Chubbuck challenge to clear school lunch debt has raised around $11,000, surpassing its $6,100 goal. Today, a final event starts at 6:00 p.m. at Off the Rails Brewing (228 South Main Street) plus features local artist Dawson Moon.  East Idaho News
  • The 9th Annual Construction Combine was held Thursday at the Home Depot parking lot in Chubbuck, where school students built sheds for veterans and met contractors; organizers said a 62% job rate (growing) while weather delays did not stop a project that delivered over 340 sheds in nine years.  KPVI
  • Pocatello Police will host the 'Know Me' Fair May 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Caldwell Park to promote the Know Me File program that helps first responders assist people with challenges during emergencies (with a sensory-friendly touch a truck and free hot dogs for the first 100 visitors).  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School District 25 will host America Through the Eyes of Our Learners, a fine arts exhibition on Friday, May 1 at Gate City Coffee (320 W. Center Street) during the First Friday Art Walk. Over 200 works, live shows and $2,000 in prizes will encourage community voting.  Local News 8
  • Hawthorne Middle School (District 25) resumes normal classes today after closing Thursday due to a facility issue; officials confirmed the building is safe and families have been notified.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • eCyclers of Idaho, partnering with Idaho National Laboratory and ISU, is hosting a free e-waste recycling event tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ISU Pond Student Union Building + 1080 S. Fifth Ave to help residents safely dispose of old electronics and keep hazardous materials out of landfills.  East Idaho News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Education Association (IEA) issued a vote of no confidence in Gov. Brad Little after he signed House Bill 516 over the weekend, which limits public school funding for union activities. The bill goes into effect July 1, following 1,000 calls and emails urging a veto.  KPVI
  • Local attorney Mary Shea received the inaugural Catalyst for Change award on April 16 in Boise from Idaho Women Lawyers for her work in family and child protection law. She is now running for the Idaho House of Representatives in District 29.  KPVI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello expanded its neonatal care unit with a new Small Baby Unit and started a pilot tele-NICU program, announced Tuesday. The four added beds help create a calm environment for micropreemies—ensuring expert care for newborns across the region.  East Idaho News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game released its fall 2025 hunt report showing mule deer harvest increased 2.8% and elk rose 2.4%, while white tailed deer numbers stayed near average due to EHD — wildlife officials said the data keep hunters hopeful for a strong season.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
