BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mike’s Music, a family-owned store that has served local musicians for 45 years, will close its Pocatello location on May 1 as customers turn to online shopping instead of trying instruments in-person — remaining items from the going-out-of-business sale will be moved to sister stores in Idaho Falls and Rexburg.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Irving Middle School celebrated its 100th anniversary Wednesday night as students, staff, and alumni gathered to view memorabilia including photos, yearbooks, and trophies that highlight the school's long history. Many families with multiple generations attended the centennial event (more alumni stories will air Thursday on KPVI).  KPVI
  • Head Start School hosted a Sock Hop event on Wednesday morning where the Pocatello Fire Department donated 500 to 600 socks to 156 students, with each student receiving 3 to 4 pairs — the event also featured a dance party and a fire truck display in its first year of celebration.  KPVI
  • Irving Middle School in Pocatello celebrated 100 years of educating students by hosting a 100-year celebration open house last night—featuring tours, alumni stories, and displays that traced its history since 1925. Principal Stuart Johnson said the event honored many lives shaped by the school's legacy.  Local News 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents can enjoy the Portneuf Valley Environmental Fair on April 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lookout Point, where over 70 local groups offer hands-on activities, live music, giveaways and free food with bus rides provided by Pocatello Regional Transit—this free event will help families and students learn how to protect our shared environment.  East Idaho News
  • Simplot Don Plant employees cleaned a two-mile stretch of adopted Highway 30 yesterday to honor Earth Day while continuing a twice-yearly cleanup that began in 2005. The team picked up about 1,600 pounds of trash on average and earned recognition from the Idaho Transportation Department on April 18.  Local News 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pocatello will host its annual Hiring Fair Friday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Public Services annex. City officials will answer questions, demonstrate equipment, and offer Chromebooks for online applications for jobs such as sanitation operator, senior equipment operator, zookeeper, parks and recreation maintenance technician, lifeguard and grounds keeper—among others.  KPVI
  • Attorney General Raúl Labrador joined a letter with 14 other state attorneys general urging the Business Roundtable to stop DEI policies that many say hurt fair hiring+ he warned these practices may break state and federal law. The letter, sent on April 22, asks companies to return to merit-based hiring to support economic growth.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Idaho State sophomore Jenna Kearns earned the NFCA National Player of the Week honor on April 23 with a .588 average, six homers, 20 RBIs and 15 runs in 11 games—making her the second Bengal in program history to receive the award. The team, which carries an 11-1 conference record, will face Boise State Wednesday before playing Portland State to finish the regular season.  East Idaho News
