  • Pope Francis died Monday morning at 7:35 a.m. CET after battling a double pneumonia infection and a stroke that led to heart failure, officials said—Idaho Catholics and state leaders, including Gov. Brad Little, marked his legacy with memorial masses and a half-mast flag order.  East Idaho News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that gas prices in Idaho dropped to an average of $3.31 per gallon on Monday—two cents less than last week and 61 cents lower than a year ago. Experts said that if crude oil stays below $70 this week, pump prices may slide further.  East Idaho News

  • UI Extension 4-H Bannock County is seeking teen camp counselors for a summer camp scheduled for June 11–13, and interested teens must submit applications by April 25 to learn leadership skills and support youth with campfires and hiking.   • The Idaho Transportation Department reminds Pocatello drivers to drive carefully in work zones during Work Zone Safety Awareness week — from April 21 to 25 — as crews work on road improvements, with data showing over 3,400 crashes in work zones from 2019 to 2023.  East Idaho News
  • The Idaho Transportation Department is promoting Work Zone Safety Awareness Week, which runs April 21—25, as rising temperatures lead to more road construction in Pocatello. State officials note that over 3,400 work zone crashes occurred between 2019 and 2023 and urge drivers to slow down and watch for signs to protect all road users.  Local News 8
  • Idaho residents must secure REAL ID before May 7 to fly commercially or access federal facilities. A star card—an Idaho driver’s license with a star—requires extra documents to verify identity and residency but costs the same as a regular license, while a license without a star remains valid for driving, renting vehicles, buying alcohol, or entering casinos.  Local News 8
