COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wild turkeys are troubling homeowners in Pocatello’s wildland—urban interface by roosting in unwanted spots and damaging property. Jennifer Jackson from Fish and Game said officers removed a dozen birds in Johnny Creek earlier this year but warned full removal is not possible and encouraged landowners to join a managed hunt program for male turkeys until May 25.  East Idaho News

CRIME NEWS

  • Gabriel Aaron Perkins, a 20-year-old man, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in a violent incident at Compass Academy parking lot in 2024—his admission ended the court case related to the altercation.  Post Register
  • Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad held a press conference on April 17 to brief the community on an officer-involved shooting that occurred April 5 but offered limited details due to the Eastern Idaho Critical Incident Task Force and pending litigation—the Idaho Attorney General’s Office will review the findings once investigations are complete.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

  • The Bannock County Event Center announced ten concerts for the 2025 season at the Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheater to be held in June, July and August. The schedule includes performances on June 25 at 8:00 p.m., July 12 at 8:00 p.m., July 19 at 8:30 p.m., July 26 at 8:00 p.m., August 1 at 7:00 p.m., August 6 at 8:00 p.m., August 8 at 7:00 p.m., August 14 at 8:00 p.m., August 15 at 8:00 p.m. and August 16 at 7:00 p.m.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Irving Middle School in Pocatello will celebrate its 100th anniversary later this month—marking a century of educating local students. School officials have planned events to honor this historic milestone.  Idaho State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Council Member Josh Mansfield resigned, leaving Council Seat #4 vacant starting May 1. Mayor Brian Blad is accepting applications to fill the term until January 8 — those chosen must win the November election to continue serving — with applications due by 5 p.m. on April 30.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Idaho State softball swept a doubleheader against Montana Friday at home, earning wins 30 and 31 that put the team on the doorstep of a conference title. Coach Andrew Rich recorded his 100th win—while junior centerfielder Ava Brown hit her 20th home run to tie a program record—as the Bengals now move within four wins of tying a season mark.  East Idaho News
