COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will join service projects later this month as part of the America250 initiative to support community needs. Volunteers will work on hands-on projects that bring people together and strengthen local ties.  Idaho State Journal
  • The Bannock County Veterans Memorial Association is asking residents for photos and stories to create a timeline display celebrating the Memorial Building's 100th birthday next month. Email submissions must include the date with your memories to [email protected] Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local arcade bar Barricade will host an official ribbon cutting on Thursday to celebrate its expansion that includes an upgraded stage and PA system - an enhanced space for customers in town.  Idaho State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • David Lee Roth will perform at the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel in Fort Hall on Saturday, July 18, with tickets going on sale Friday, April 17 at 10 a.m. The limited run concert is expected to attract classic rock fans from across eastern Idaho.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After being shot and poisoned, a bald eagle received emergency treatment at an animal center in Pocatello today and is now on the road to recovery — officials say its progress highlights the center's vital role in local wildlife care.  Idaho State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Portneuf River Bridge on West Benton Street is being replaced with a new concrete girder and rebuilt roadway and pedestrian approaches — the project, which started mid-April, is scheduled to finish by the end of September.  KPVI
  • April Neal, a 911 dispatcher at the Pocatello Police Department, has spent 10 years handling about 100 daily calls from serious emergencies to routine service needs, and she stressed that providing an accurate location speeds help + urged those interested in public service to consider a dispatch career.  Local News 8
  • Residents oppose rezoning of 2.5 acres along North Marsh Creek Road from rural to industrial use linked to a planned asphalt plant. A town hall meeting is scheduled today at 5:15 p.m. at the county Planning and Zoning office (5500 South Fifth Ave) to hear concerns.  East Idaho News
  • After recent budget cuts and spending reductions, state leaders project Idaho will finish fiscal year 2026 with a small surplus instead of the deficit forecast last month (the shift follows tighter fiscal measures).  Idaho State Journal
