COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A groundbreaking ceremony for the new ICCU field house was held on Wednesday to start a project that will add an indoor soccer field and multi-use facility for youth sports. The facility is next to the Mountain View Event Center—officials have not announced a completion date.  KPVI
  • Cornerstone Caregiving of Pocatello and Brookdale Senior Living will host the Veterans Fundraising Ball on Saturday, June 7 at 5 p.m. at Phil Meador Subaru, 1437 Yellowstone Avenue to raise funds for restoring the Veterans Memorial Building—an effort to honor local heroes.  East Idaho News
  • The community will hold a candlelight vigil on Saturday, April 12th at 6 p.m. outside Portneuf Medical Center to support 17-year-old Victor Perez—a teen shot by four Pocatello Police officers during a disturbance call who is in critical condition after losing his left leg. Organizers will collect donations and cards for his family while urging an independent investigation into the incident.  KPVI

  • Jennifer McMaster opened Treasure Trove at 755 North Main Street, Ste. D in Pocatello last week offering home decor at good prices. She runs the shop with business partner Tara Teuscher and updates its inventory weekly—featuring items from toys to puzzles.  East Idaho News

CRIME NEWS

  • Victor Perez, a Pocatello teen with autism and cerebral palsy who was shot nine times by police on April 5 during a family barbecue, remains in a medically induced coma while his family’s GoFundMe fundraiser exceeded its $6,000 goal by raising $6,724 and a candlelight vigil is planned outside Portneuf Medical Center on Saturday at 6 p.m.  Local News 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District announced the seven winners of the 7th annual Terry Perkins Educational Scholarship, awarding each student $3,000 with the possibility to renew for an additional year—eligible students attend Century, Highland, Pocatello and New Horizon high schools.  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed the 'medical freedom' bill less than an hour after the Legislature passed its final bill of the year on Friday—this move completed his final bill actions for the session.  Idaho State Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Idaho State Bengals won four games last week including a three‐game sweep over Northern Colorado and a 13‐2 win over Utah State in Logan, and they now hold a 5-1 conference record that ties them with Weber State (their overall record is much stronger). They will begin a three‐game series at Weber State and then host Montana for senior day at Miller Ranch Stadium (their home field).  East Idaho News
