COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Zoo Idaho is back for the 2025 season—exhibiting native species from the Intermountain West—and opens today for weekend visits; it will operate on weekdays starting May 1. Admission costs are $5 for kids under age 11 and $7 for adults, with discounts for local students, seniors, military members, and groups of 10.  Local News 8
  • On April 4, Homefire Comfort Foods, a bright orange food truck on Yellowstone Avenue, began serving Pocatello residents barbecue dishes like pulled pork and brisket. Owner Josh Andrus built his menu from years of kitchen work and plans to cater local events—he aims to give customers a comfortable experience.  East Idaho News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fatal crash occurred just north of Shelley on April 4th when authorities identified Barbara Rutherford and her daughter Tammie Richeson as the two women killed—police are investigating the incident.  KPVI
  • Early Friday morning, a fire gutted a mobile home in Pocatello—killing two dogs.  Idaho State Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Chubbuck police are asking for help locating 14-year-old Anevei Villasenor—reported as a juvenile runaway by her family on April 1—while they investigate her disappearance.  Idaho State Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • A metal sign from the historic Stinker Station that warned not to laugh at natives went missing late February near Beach’s Corner at the junction of Highway 26 and Highway 43, and the Museum of Idaho will display it in its upcoming exhibit opening April 19—if found, they ask that it be returned with no questions asked.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Advantage Plus Federal Credit Union provided new scoreboards for the gyms at Franklin, Hawthorne, Irving and Alameda Middle Schools in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District on April 4; the upgrades are expected to enhance experiences for student athletes, coaches and families (installations were completed on schedule) (the credit union funded the project).  KPVI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Portneuf Valley Environmental Fair will be held on April 26th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lookout Point in Historic Downtown Pocatello. The free event will feature live music, multiple vendor booths and a variety of hands-on activities (including well water sample testing, lithium-ion battery disposal and lead testing).  KPVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Fish and Game Southeast Region is asking local landowners in Pocatello to join the Managed Hunt program before fall so they can allow hunting on their property and set rules for use (which means landowners do not meet hunters directly) while Fish and Game manages hunter access (with trespassing penalties for rule violations).  Local News 8
  • On April 4, Mayor Brian Blad posted his April 2025 newsletter on the City website—his lead article 'Of Trolls, Diplomats and Angels' discusses online interactions and offers a community shout-out to the Water Department, smoke alarms and Optimist Skatepark.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
