  • Popeyes is set to replace the long-standing A&W restaurant in Pocatello as it transitions from serving root beer floats to offering Louisiana-style chicken. The new restaurant will open soon at its current location (bringing a fresh menu to local diners).  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At his State of the University address on Wednesday, April 3, ISU president Robert Wagner outlined a bold path forward amid a 5% cut that led to combining colleges and laying off 44 employees, while highlighting enrollment gains and launching his Bold Path podcast (a commitment to serve Idaho’s community).  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Power reminds residents that April is National Safe Digging Month and advises calling 811 two business days before digging (while keeping at least 10 feet from power lines). The company also urges checking outdoor cords for damage before use.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • Idaho Fish and Game will stock over 214,000 catchable rainbow trout this April in lakes and ponds including Edson Fichter Pond near downtown Pocatello plus Bannock Reservoir at Portneuf Wellness Complex Park, making family fishing accessible for budding anglers.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

  • Former fire chief Ryan O’Hearn retired at the end of March after a 24-year career with the local fire department and was honored at a retirement celebration Tuesday — he now will focus on teaching in Idaho State University's Fire Services Administration program.  East Idaho News
