COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two local museums sharing the same building in Pocatello are planning a year of events to build community bonds among area children—families and entrepreneurs. The museums will work together to offer programs that benefit local residents.  Idaho State Journal
  • The Spring Fair begins Thursday at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello—over 200 vendors will showcase home and garden products as one of East Idaho’s largest events. The fair is held at Idaho State and will offer a week full of activities for local shoppers.  Idaho State Journal
  • People from across Idaho came to Boise for the Public Lands in Public Hands rally that started at 11 a.m. Supporters voiced their belief that public lands should stay open— a right they view as sacred.  Idaho State Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a call about a shed fire over the weekend in a Pocatello backyard and contained the blaze before it reached the home as residents evacuated safely (the cause is under investigation).  KPVI

CRIME NEWS

  • The trial of Todd Vernon Brewer (accused of shooting two police officers in 2022) began this week in Pocatello as jurors watched graphic police body camera footage.  Idaho State Journal
  • On Tuesday evening a man was charged with driving under the influence after causing a chain-reaction crash at a busy intersection in Pocatello—police said the incident is under investigation.  Idaho State Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 25, Senator Glenneda Zuiderveld said she will vote no on two bills (S1183 and H303) that would ease legal liability for Idaho Power and Bayer, arguing the proposals protect corporations over the people of Idaho. She explained that while the bills differ in details, both continue to limit accountability for these companies.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • The Idaho Legislature approved a bill that would allow the death penalty for adults who sexually abuse children 12-or-younger. The child-sex abuse measure is now headed to Governor Brad Little for final consideration.  Idaho State Journal
  • The Idaho Transportation Department is working to extend the lifespan of US-91 by sealing cracks on 5th Street and 4th Street. Crews will continue work north on Yellowstone Avenue - shifting to nighttime work from Cedar Street to limit disruptions as weather permits.  Local News 8
